Frozen Persephone

While exploring Medford Beach, near Canning NS, this past March I came across an ice formation on the cliff above the beach. I suspect is was formed by a storm tide and subsequent melting. I was drawn by the beautiful shapes and curves of the ice – very feminine. The forms were too high up to photograph well with my tripod, so these images were taken handheld. They reminded me of the Ancient Greek myth about Persephone freezing in Hades – an apt metaphor for the harsh winter we experienced in 2015. Views of the ice formation can be seen in colour on one of my Flickr albums.
